Walking into a salon you have never been to is mostly an act of trust. You are handing your hair to a room you have only seen on a phone. At L’Amour Luxe in Kharghar, the first appointment is built so that trust is not needed yet. Nothing is cut, mixed or applied until you have seen what is planned and what it will cost, in writing.
Here is how the first hour goes, in order, so none of it comes as a surprise.
What happens at a first salon visit
You arrive, you sit, and nobody reaches for the scissors. The first part of a first appointment is a conversation: how you wear your hair now, what you wish it did, and what you have tried before that did not work.
Expect it to take the better part of an hour. That is deliberate. Most disappointments at a salon start with ten rushed minutes at the chair, and the time here is spent so they do not.
Why your hair is read dry and standing
Wet hair misleads. It is heavier, straighter and longer than it will be once it dries, so a shape judged wet can land very differently. Your hair is read dry and standing, the way you actually wear it, with the parting where it falls on an ordinary morning.
That is also when length is measured properly rather than guessed. If you want two inches off, you should be shown what two inches looks like before it is gone.
Dry hair also shows what a mirror photograph hides: where the crown turns, which way a cowlick pulls, how dense the hair is at the nape and how much of it is fine at the front. Those details decide whether a cut you saved on your phone will sit the same way on you.
The written quotation, before anything begins
Once the plan is clear, it is put in writing with its price. For a haircut that takes a minute. For colour or a smoothing treatment it is the part worth reading slowly, because those are the services where a vague yes at the start turns into a large bill at the end.
The quotation says what will be done and what it will cost. If the plan has to change once the work is under way, that is a conversation first, not a line added afterwards.
You can say no at this point. The consultation is free and does not commit you to booking anything, so leaving with a quotation to think over is a perfectly ordinary way to end a first visit.
What changes for colour and treatments
Colour is mixed in the room, for you, rather than taken off a shelf in a shade someone else chose. Before it goes on, the plan covers where your hair is starting from, how many sessions the result will honestly take, and how the colour will look as it grows out. The hair colour page sets out the techniques.
Smoothing treatments follow the same rule. Where there is any doubt about how your hair will take one, a strand test comes first. A treatment is diagnosed before it is booked, which means the honest answer is sometimes that today is not the day. The hair treatment page covers what is on the carte.
What to bring to your first appointment
A photograph helps, and a few help more. Bring the cut or colour you like and, just as usefully, one you do not, so the difference is easy to name. A photograph is a starting point and not a promise. Hair that is finer, thicker or darker than the picture will not behave identically.
Mention anything recent. Colour done at home, a smoothing treatment from a few months ago, henna: all of it changes what is sensible to do next. Say it even if it feels awkward, because it saves you a worse surprise later.
Come with your hair as you normally wear it, rather than freshly washed and styled for the occasion. The point is to see it as it is.
How long a first appointment takes
Plan on about an hour for the consultation, with the service itself on top. A haircut follows fairly quickly. Colour or a smoothing treatment takes considerably longer, and the quotation tells you how long before you commit to it.
The salon is open seven days, from 11.00 to 21.00. A weekday evening is easier to book than a weekend, and a good choice if you are coming after work.
When you do not need the full hour
If you are in for a trim on a shape you already like, a first appointment does not have to be an hour of talking. Say so at the start. A short conversation, a clear quotation and a good trim is a perfectly legitimate first visit.
The same goes for a smaller service such as a manicure or a pedicure. The questions are fewer, and so is the wait.

What people ask before they book
What happens at a first salon visit?
You start with a consultation of about an hour. Your hair is read dry and standing, the plan is agreed, and a written quotation comes before anything is cut, mixed or applied.
Is the first consultation free?
Yes. It is free and does not commit you to booking anything, so you can take the quotation home and think it over.
How long does a first appointment take at a salon in Kharghar?
Allow about an hour for the consultation, with the service on top. A haircut is the shortest. Colour and smoothing treatments take longer, and the quotation tells you how long before you agree.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Photographs of a cut or colour you like and one you do not, plus a note of any recent colour or treatment, including anything done at home. Wear your hair as you normally do.
Can I get my first haircut at a new salon in Navi Mumbai without changing my style?
Yes. Ask to keep what you have and have it trimmed. The consultation is how the salon learns your shape, so a first visit does not have to be a makeover.
What if I am not sure what I want?
That is what the consultation is for. Talk through what bothers you, look at a few photographs, and you leave with a plan and a price. You do not have to decide on the spot.
