Scissors, clippers and razors are sterilised between every client rather than wiped and reused, blades are changed per client for a shave, and towels are laundered fresh for each appointment.

Will my cut be personalised, or is there a set process for everyone?

Every cut starts from the same read — dry, standing, and specific to how your hair actually falls — rather than a fixed style applied regardless of who is in the chair. Two people asking for the same length can leave with different cuts, because their hair does different things.

Do you colour beards and cover grey?

Yes. Sidelocks, moustache and full beard colour are all available, matched against your own beard in daylight rather than to a number on a tube — grey comes in unevenly, and a flat colour reads as dye from across a room.

Most men arrive having been given the same cut for a decade, by someone who never asked what it was meant to do. We start somewhere else: the hair is read dry and standing, because that is the state it will be in for the rest of the fortnight. Wet hair hangs longer and straighter than it ever does again, and a shape agreed on wet hair is a shape you will not recognise by Tuesday.

That consultation is complimentary, and it commits you to nothing. If what you want is not something we can do well, we will say so rather than take the booking — the point of asking first is that the answer is sometimes no.

Before anything is cut

Every appointment carries the time the work actually needs, not the time the diary has left. Scissors, clippers and razors are sterilised between clients rather than wiped and reused, and towels are laundered fresh for every appointment — not shared, however busy the room is.

It is also where a beard trim becomes a hot-towel shave if the beard calls for it, or a scalp massage gets added because the head massage that comes with any hair service is complimentary, not an upsell. The same attention that goes into a first-time client's consultation goes into a returning client's tenth visit.

The cut

The difference between a graduate cut and one with an expert is the time booked and who is holding the scissors, not a different set of techniques — the two are the same craft with different amounts of it behind them. There are cuts for children, for undergraduates and for a first close look at a completely new shape, but the process is identical: dry, standing, agreed before it starts.

Scissor-over-comb, clipper work and fades are all part of the same appointment. So is the finish — nothing is handed back unstyled, and a style alone is available for anyone who only needs the finish redone before somewhere they have to be.

The beard, and the shave

A trim maintains a line that is already right; a styling redraws it. Redrawing is the slower job — the jaw, the cheek and the neckline are three separate decisions, and the neckline is the one that dates a beard fastest if it is set too high.

A classic shave is worked with a hot towel and a straight razor, the blade changed for every client rather than stropped and reused. Beard and sidelock colour is matched against the beard in daylight rather than to a number on a tube, because grey comes in unevenly and a flat colour reads as dye from across a room.

Colour, and the treatment range

Colour, highlights and pre-lightening are all available at men's rates, worked to the same standard as everything else on this page rather than a smaller version of it.

The full treatment range is open to men too — Olaplex, scalp care, smoothing, nanoplastia. Hair fall and dandruff are the two things men most often come in about, and both are a scalp problem before they are a hair problem, which is why the scalp treatments are read at consultation rather than sold off a shelf.
